Bustiers or the Bustiere is a garment designed to form the shape of your body in the waist and bust areas and is traditionally worn as an item of lingerie. By tightening of the bustier under the midriff, the bust is pushed up, increasing the appearance of breast size and reducing or shaping the waist, which is the main function of the bustier. Nowadays the bustier is much more versatile, being worn as a push-up bra or as a camisole worn over a blouse. Reaching the ribs or waist the bustier is similar to the basque but shorter.

Corsets are garments worn mainly by women to hold and gently shape the silhouette. Usually worn for aesthetics but a medical corset functions much the same way. Used commonly by the fashion industry, the term corset is often applied to tops mimicking the traditional look of the corset in varying degrees, without the actual functionality of a corset. A corset will only shape the body for as long as it is being worn. Unfortunately as soon as it is removed our body will return to its natural shape.

Use of the word corset has been generally used since 1785. It was originally used to differentiate between the lighter corset and the much heavier stays of this period.
